LASPOTECH COMPLETES ITS 18TH CONVOCATION CEREMONY

The Polytechnic’s 18th Convocation Ceremony for the award of National Diploma and Higher National Diploma to over 5,000 graduating students was concluded yesterday Thursday, 22nd A

pril, 2010 at the Convocation Grounds, Ikorodu Campus.

The 18th Convocation ceremonies commenced with a remarkable Alumni Dinner on Saturday, 10th April, 2010 at the Lagos Sheraton Hotel and Towers, Ikeja and the Convocation Press Conference held on Monday, 12th April, 2010 at the Ikorodu Campus.

The Convocation Special Jumat Service of Friday 16th April, 2010 was indeed a commendable one as the guest lecturer Mr. Sulaiman Ogunmuyiwa spoke on “Nigerian Tertiary Education Challenges and Prospects.” In the lecture, he carefully highlighted some of the challenges and prospects of tertiary education in Nigeria.

The Rector in his address appreciated Allah, the most beneficent for His mercies and peace in the community and he also prayed for the graduands for favour in all their endeavours.

Prayers were said to Almighty Allah for peace to continually reign in the Polytechnic and all Institutions of Learning in Nigeria.

At the Convocation dinner held at the Lagos Sheraton Hotel and Towers, Ikeja on Saturday 17th April, 2010, the Rector in his welcome address commended the contributions of the Polytechnic Fellows in the past years.

He thereafter charged the Polytechnic Fellows, State Government and well meaning personalities to assist the Polytechnic in the construction of a  sports complex for the Institution, new Administrative Complex, construction of Entrepreneurship Education Training Centre, renovation of the student’s activities centre, and provision of security lights all over the Polytechnic Community.

The Convocation Lecture titled “Empowering Future Generations for Self-Reliance” was held on Tuesday, 20th April, 2010 at theSchool of Engineering
Lecture Theatre, Ikorodu    Campus by 1pm.

The Lecture was delivered by Professor Babatunde L. A. Fetuga
(former Dean, School of Post-Graduate Studies, University of Ibadan, Ibadan).

He made emphasis on youth engagement in productive activity as a way of reducing poverty through job creation, skill development, economic empowerment and food security.

Thursday, 22nd April, 2010 was the grand finale of the Convocation Ceremony where over 5,000 students graduated with the award of National Diploma and Higher National Diploma certificates at the Convocation Grounds, Ikorodu Campus. Best students in their respective categories were also awarded various prizes.
